MDF and Its Particles

Posted by MDF Board  |  at  02:04

Medium Density Fiberboard mainly known as MDF and also has some synonyms Craft wood and Custom wood. It is produce by turning softwood into fibers and mixes it with wax and resin and keep them pressure at very high temperatures.

Use of MDF
  • Laminate Flooring
  • Residential Furniture
  • Kitchen Cabinets
  • Doors
  • Jambs and Millwork
  • Embossing
  • Laminating
  • Moulding
What are the dangers of working with MDF boards compared to other wood products?

In the time of machining MDF it contains a mixture of softwood dust and hardwood dust there will be also be free formaldehyde .Under current regulation softwood dust, hardwood dust and formaldehyde are seems to be dangerous to health. Both softwood and hardwood dusts may cause asthma and other respiratory problems and hardwood dust can also cause a rare form of nasal cancer.

What is formaldehyde and where does it come from?

Formaldehyde is an essential organic chemical that present naturally in most forms of life, including people, some foods we eat and trees. We used formaldehyde in manufacturing of various products like shampoos, clothing, plastics, carpets, resins and glues etc.

Advantages of using MDF:
  • It is in your budget
  • It comes in various size and shapes
  • It does not contain natural defects
  • It can be easily manufacture
MDF becomes an ideal alternative to many traditional solid woods because of its unmatched features and reasonable price and now it is use for numerous purposes.

MDF and their Benefits

Posted by MDF Board  |  at  05:18

MDF have a collection of softwood dust, free formaldehyde, resin and its derivatives and some dust particles which is absorbed formaldehyde. For making children’s furniture MDF is widely used and it is most popular material to making this furniture. In the place of solid wood MDF is used in nowadays basically you can say that it is an ideal alternative of solid wood and it is used for a number of purposes including making office furniture, Laminate Flooring, kitchen cabinets, Doors, Jambs & Millwork, panel mouldings and many more. MDF can be easily machined and cut into many shapes and sizes, and also used for decorative wood.

Benefits of using MDF:-

1. It is smooth and dense
Medium density fiberboard provide smooth surface because it is made up of fine particles. MDF can machine easily without damaging its surface.

2. It is versatile
MDF is robust in nature that’s why Builders use it in many applications, like in decorative molding, doors, shelving, laminate and flooring furniture.

3. It is Environmental Friendly
Because of its eco-friendly nature mostly people MDF as opposed to plywood. This certainly increases its popularity because of its unmatched features.

4. It is Economical
Buying and using MDF in the place of other wood product is more economical for you.MDF can be more economical in many applications.

MDF has number of reason why it should be used in the place of other wood. The particles in MDF also provide stability.

The Truths and Myths about MDF

Posted by MDF Board  |  at  00:12

MDF is a wood compound particle, bonded with a synthetic resin, which is mainly formaldehyde-based and it keep in heat and pressure for making it robust in nature and acts like a natural wood. It is used industrially in furniture and cabinet making. Medium Density Fiberboard is a category of composite wood product.

It is 100% safe once it is used to build up a finished piece of furniture, but when we have to work to cutting piece of the MDF and while we cut this some dust particles is released which are harmful so prevent from this we should Wear a mask.

The major point recognized with MDF is that its manufacturing associates a resin consisting of formaldehyde which is a known toxin and carcinogen in high concentrations. When we cut MDF for building purpose the sawdust and formaldehyde are released. Sawdust and formaldehyde are bad to smell mainly the formaldehyde; so, when the MDF gets cutting then it is advice to cut in the ventilated area or safe working environment. When MDF is machining, it is the peak time when any kind of health risk will takes place.

Medium Density Fiberboard and Traditional Wood Materials

Posted by MDF Board  |  at  04:23

Medium density fiberboard or simply called MDF is a compound wood product which is identical to particleboard. MDF is made from waste fibers glued together with resin under heat, and pressure. MDF is highly functional and can be manufactured and finished to a high standard because it is widely used in these days and as a result, MDF has replaced solid timber.

MDF has replaced all traditional wood materials used by the people because of these reasons:
  • It has excellent machining characteristics because of its density
  • It has higher moisture tolerance capacity than other tradition wood materials.
  • It is more robust in nature
  • It has fire resistance capacity more than the timber and it is aesthetically pleasing.
  • It has scratch resistance capacity.
There are some dangers occur when you work with MDF compared to other wood materials like Softwood and Hardwood products:

The environment formed by completing MDF board acquires a mix of dust of hardwood and dust of softwood. When we cut MDF board there are so many dust particles are released in which free formaldehyde are present and resin with its derivatives are also present. Formaldehyde is imperative organic chemical and mainly found at low levels, commonly lower than 0.03 parts per million in both air i.e. outdoor and indoor air and present mainly in people, foods which we eat and trees. Under current act formaldehyde, hardwood dust and softwood dust are seems to be unsafe to our fitness and health. It is dangerous for our environment and make harm for our respiratory system. It may cause irritation to the eyes and lungs.

Advantages for using MDF:
  • It is in your budget
  • It is present in various sizes and verities
  • It can be easily manufactured
  • It gives you smooth and quality surface.
  • It easily drilled without affecting its surface.
  • It is eco-friendly.
  • MDF is versatile.
Disadvantages for using MDF Board:
  • If proper safety protections are not applied then MDF can be unsafe to use.
  • MDF consist of a substance named urea formaldehyde, which are responsible for irritation to the eyes and also it affects the lungs.
  • When we cut MDF with machinery then appropriate ventilation is needed.
  • Facemasks are required the dirt released when manufacturing MDF is very injurious to health.
  • Masks and goggles should every time be frayed at all times to be safe.
  • If you do not care then material may crack so MDF can be hooked together with screws and nails.
  • MDF is not suitable for most joints
  • MDF should be fully packed to avoid toxins from spreading.
MDF is widely used in Embossing, Moulding, Laminate Flooring, Office & Residential Furniture, Kitchen Cabinets, Laminating and Finishing etc. As in the same family like particle board MDF is a constructed wood product. The major component of MDF offers many opportunities for it to be used as an alternative to solid wood and that’s the reason it is widely used in these days.

MDF and Its Properties

Posted by MDF Board  |  at  04:13

MDF is short form of medium density fiberboard because it is produced from fiberboard which is same to particle board. As opposite from veneers or particles MDF is manufactured from wood fibers which is dry-processed fiberboard. MDF is smooth from the both side and it is denser than plywood and particleboard.

Properties of MDF:-

Durability

If continually wet than the glue bond of MDF is breakdown and fungal attack may be happen so MDF is intended for use in moist. MDF Boards may be created with fungicide accompaniment or have a brush on post therapy defensive to conserve against surface form which even though are not wood spoiling , will cause a calm amount of surface deformity under wet conditions.

Moisture properties

MDF will react to alteration in concerning moisture of the environmental air. MDF should be reached the moisture level in which it is to be used. Moisture contents will usually be in the range 10 - 12% when used in buildings destined for human control.

MDF is reconstructed into wood sheets in a collection of lengths and widths. Under heat and pressure through the addition of synthetic resin adhesives the bonding of MDF is created. MDF is accessible in an inclusive range of density, dimensions and breadth based on the type of its use.
